Royal Australian Air Force Sergeant Jamie Polzin with the No. 37 Squadron, discusses her role during Operation Christmas Drop en route to deliver bundles to Kapingamarangi, Dec. 8, 2019. The rich history of Operation Christmas Drop started in 1952 when locals on the atoll of Kapingamarangi waved at the aircrew of a passing WB-50 Superfortress, prompting the crew to gather, pack and parachute goods to the islanders. In its 68th year, OCD is the world’s longest running airdrop training mission, providing critical supplies to 56 Micronesian islands, impacting approximately 20,000 people across 1.8 million square nautical miles of operating area.
