The 436th Airlift Wing Inspector General’s Complaints Resolution Office is a resource available to all Airmen in need of resolving specific types of issues concerning their workplace or chain of command.

“Our primary tasking is to help all Airmen across Dover [AFB] resolve their issues, as quickly as possible, so everyone can get back to focusing on the mission,” said Master Sgt. Brian Baker, 436th AW Inspector General complaint resolution director.

All military members have a right to communicate with IG or Congress without fear of reprisal or restriction.

Reprisal: Taking or threatening to take an unfavorable personnel action, or withholding or threatening to withhold a favorable personnel action on a military member for making or preparing, or being perceived as making or preparing to make a protected communication.

Restriction: Preventing or attempting to prevent members of the Armed Forces from making or preparing to make lawful communications to members of Congress and/or an IG.

Air Force military and civilian employees have a duty to promptly report fraud, waste and abuse and other violations of law, policy, procedures, instructions or regulations to an IG or other appropriate inspector or through an established grievance channel. Injustice, abuse of authority, inappropriate conduct or misconduct must also be reported.

“We act as the eyes and ears of the wing commander to let him know if there are any issues that are trending,” said Baker. “If someone walks through the door with an issue, there are five ways we can resolve it.”

Issues can be resolved by: assisting, referring, transferring, investigating or dismissing.

Assist: Usually a request for information that IG can provide an answer to.

Refer: To refer to the appropriate agency best suited to resolve the issue.

Transfer: When another IG is more appropriate to address the issue.

Investigate: Reprisal and restriction only.

Dismiss: When frivolous or when there is no violation.

The IG cannot stop command actions such as a Letter of Reprimand, Unfavorable Information File, Article 15 or discharge.

To properly file a complaint, refer to Air Force Instruction 90-301, Chapter 2, and complete an Air Force Form 102. This can be delivered in person to the Complaints Resolution Office, located in Building 263, suite 302, or by email to 436aw.ig@us.af.mil or brian.baker.9@us.af.mil. The office can also be contacted by phone at (302) 677-4046 or by fax at (302) 677-4045.
