A tribute to Brig. Gen. J. Kemp McLaughlin

On December 15, 2019, Brig. Gen. James Kemp McLaughlin (Ret.) passed away.
A WWII veteran, McLaughlin served as a B-17 Pilot for 39 combat missions - some of those including the widely known "Black Thursday" bombings, the Battle of the Bulge, and the Schweinfurt Ball Bearing Bombings.
In 1946 he returned to his home state, where he both founded and served as the first commander of the West Virginia Air National Guard, eventually becoming the West Virginia National Guard Assistant Adjutant General - Air.
After retiring, he went on to serve in roles as the Kanawha County Commissioner and a delegate in the West Virginia House. (U.S. Air National Guard Video by Senior Airman Caleb Vance)
