U.S. Army Lt. Col William Branch, battalion commander of 1st battalion, 64th Armored Regiment, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division assumes command of Multinational NATO Battle Group Poland from Lt. Col. Patrick Merriss, 2nd Battalion, 12th Regiment, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division during a transfer of authority ceremony (TOA) at Bemowo Piskie Training Area (BPTA), Poland, Jan. 29, 2025. The TOA ceremony transferred authority from the 2-12th Cavalry Regiment to the incoming 1-64th Armored Regiment. Change of Command ceremonies are a long-standing Army tradition that mark the transition between incoming and outgoing units and their leadership. Battle group Poland's mission is to engage in multinational training and exercises across the continent, while strengthening partnerships with our NATO allies and regional security partners, which provides competent and ready forces to V Corps, America’s forward-deployed corps in Europe.
